Power outage and how you can be prepared!
Powere Outage – Let’s get prepared
Are you prepared for a power outage? Let’s discuss risks that you need to know about, and how you can create a game-plan for you and your family to follow.
Power outages predictably happen during fierce weather conditions like, freezing temperatures, fires, wind, and lightning storms. Sometimes a power surge will overload a breaker at any given time and day. It is a great idea to prepare for it to happen.
Gather the family and create a plan for a power outage. Develop an emergency route that your family can easily follow. Draw a map of your house and property. Clarify where each room is and mark on that map where the circuit breaker is. Have a designated area for your emergency supplies and store them safely. List on the map important contacts and their information. Include your local power company, electrician, county, city, nieghbors, and relatives. If there is an emergency.ALWAYS CALL 911.
Now that we have a planned route on the map let’s create a list of important supplies and equipment. Each item below will either help you with food, light, warmth, and comfort.
- Water for drinking and cleaning
- Flash lights
- Matches and lighters
- Fire Wood
- Gasoline, diesel, and/or propane
- Extra clothes, gloves, and boots
- Sleeping bags, blankets, and towels
- Rain gear with reflective material
- Extra food that is non perishable
- Toilet paper
- First aid kits
- Walkie Talkies
- Gun with ammo
There can be more added to this list as you plan it out.
It is very important to never use a gas powered generator inside a house. Carbon dioxide is a toxic gas that can make you and others sick or potentially fatal. Store explosive fuels in a non-flammable compartment and keep it locked away. Remember it is always important to be more prepared than not.
